“Sites of Memory and of Magic: Building a Path to Social Healing through the Museum Gallery”
Museums are marvelous sites of wonder and discovery. They also provide a retrospective view of what our forebears have most valued and tell us who was writing our collective history. But nowadays we also note their omissions and oversights — whose stories were never told, whose history was never collected, and which voices have consistently been denied a hearing. This talk explores museums and the Christian value of forgiveness and explores how museums today can atone for important gaps in our cultural record, as we seek to move forward healed, heard, and committed to a broader view of who “we” are.
