BLACK HISTORY IN WASHTENAW COUNTY
Please join the Contemporary Issues Committee as we learn more about Black History in Washtenaw County. We are delighted to welcome a speaker from the African American Cultural and Historical Museum of Washtenaw County on February 14 at 11:15 am following the morning service.
This organization began as a “museum without walls” in 1996 and seeks to collect and preserve the history including artifacts and oral histories in Washtenaw County. They were selected in 2018 as one of seven museums to participate in an inaugural initiative of the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC) and the American Association for State and Local History (AASLH). One of the many significant services they provide to our community are their Journey to Freedom Tours, identifying significant sites of the Underground Railroad in our area. Come to learn more and support this ongoing effort. Website is aachm.org
Please use the Contemporary Issues link on the church’s website to connect to the program.
The March 14 program will be on “The Opioid Crisis” with a guest speaker Lemont Gore.
