Human Rights Day

Hi all.  Today is Human Rights Day, which is observed every year on December 10, the day the United Nations General Assembly adopted it in 1948.  The original UN declaration proclaimed, We hold as our common global goal to assert and protect “the inalienable rights which everyone is entitled to as a human being, regardless of race, color, religion, sex, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth of other status.”

This year’s Human Rights Day is related to the COVID-19 pandemic, with its particular focus on the world’s need to recover from the pandemic and rebuild international solidarity and interconnectedness.  Both of these desires, or course, are worthy of our active support and prayers.  As your minister and world citizen, I continue to hope our whole world will more and more become a better and more sustainable and just place for all people everywhere.

My friends, as a local congregation that has its founding in affirming and protecting the value and dignity of all persons as a reflection of our faith in God who loves and values all people, I hope you will join me in active prayer for such ideals in our communities, nation, and world today.

I believe we need such high ideals today more than ever!

Blessings,

Bob Livingston
